Reports emerging indicate that the newly elected speaker of Mombasa County Assembly Harun Khatri is a suspected drug dealer.
Khatri is a close ally of Governor Hassan Joho and he was the only applicant for the position despite numerous reports that other close allies of Joho would apply.
Among them were former Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba and former Mombasa mayor Ahmed Mohdar.
According to county assembly clerk Salim Juma, 12 people had shown interest in the position and picked application forms but were reportedly blocked by Joho from submitting their application forms.
Khatri will now be on the spot by interpol and the US government if he’ll use his new position to advance his drug dealings.
