On Monday, ICC Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, named 12 Kalenjin leaders who assisted Deputy President William Ruto in committing crimes against humanity during the 2007-08 post election violence.
In a statement to the judges after Ruto filed a no case to answer motion, Bensouda said Ruto controlled a complex network (an organisation) and used leaders on the ground to order for the eviction of members of the Kikuyu community out of Rift Valley.
“Ruto controlled the organisation [the Network]; the Network was an organised and hierarchical apparatus of power; there was almost automatic compliance with Ruto’s instructions,” said Bensouda
Bensouda even named individuals who were in Ruto’s network who included current and retired politicians.
