It seems Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s aide George Wainaina will have to spend more in the court to try and exonerate himself from bribery claims facing him.
This is after Nairobi Governor candidate Mike Sonko appealed against the High Court ruling in Nairobi that quashed bribery charges against the Nairobi County chief of staff.
Meanwhile it has now been emerged that the controversial Wainaina attempted to bribe Justice Isaac Lenaola with Sh100 million to drop the bribery allegations facing him.
Judge Isaac Lenaola said it was unfortunate he had to disqualify himself after being “offended” by parties in the case on February 15, 2016.
Justice Lenaola has since been promoted to the Supreme Court.
George Wainaina had been accused of trying to bribe Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko. The court on Tuesday ruled that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) failed to act independently and did not have commissioners to enable it to make recommendations that Mr Wainaina should be charged with graft.
Wainaina and his secretary, Roselyne Oluoch, were arrested by EACC detectives after Sonko claimed she wanted to bribe him with Sh1 million to induce him to drop a suit he filed over Loresho land owned by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.
Wainaina has been accused of irregularly allocating the land.
