It has now emerged that Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero paid Peter Kenneth Ksh200 million to ensure he vies for the Nairobi governor seat as an independent candidate.
According to sources within City Hall, Kidero was forced to dish out the millions to Kenneth after he conducted a research which showed that he’ll lose terribly to Sonko whose bid was boosted after he named business guru Polycarp Igathe as his running mate.
Peter Kenneth is now planning to splash the Kidero milions in media houses to ensure he gets positive coverage as we head closer to the August 8 polls.
Kidero is not new to money scandals after he was found guilty of bribing Supreme Court Judge Philip Tonui with Ksh200 million in January 2016 to drop a petition challenging his election in 2013.
Kidero’s fears have been confirmed after a new opinion poll by the Radio Africa Group Research Department showed Senator Sonko would trounce Governor Kidero in the Nairobi Governor seat race during the August 8 elections.
The survey indicates Jubilee nominee Senator Sonko would defeat ODM’s Governor Kidero by 49 per cent to 35 per cent while former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth would get 9 per cent.
The survey of 3,430 registered voters was conducted from May 3-14 in 28 counties sampled through random, multi-stage stratified methods using PPS (proportionate to population size).
