It is coming out clearly that team CORD led by Senator James Orengo did poorly in IEBC reforms.
Now that they no longer see the need for audit of the voters register, would it mean that we begin this clamor all over again ?
Secondly ,we know the appointment of IEBC Commissioners is now firmly in the hands of the President. The president is now technically and practically a player and a referee. Where he has a choice of chair between two then it is easy for him to choose one on the understanding that he favors him.
Having agreed on the way forward, why are we complaining ? A fair process is fair for all, are we admitting that these guys shortchanged or did not do a thorough job?
My personal opinion which is biased tells me that Team CORD did a shoddy job and far from public pronouncements ,they did not level the electoral platform.
This then leads to my fears about negotiation skills of Hon. James Orengo. As great as he is and as articulate as he has been,he falls short in my view as an avid negotiator. He gives in easily. This one is more painful because it was not about partisan interest but FAIR PLAYING field which is UNIVERSAL .
He has however rebuked all dissenters in very strong words, quoting great men in history .
But just as I said earlier , we will look back to the day this deal was struck as that which would have made the journey easier and not tougher.
As a way forward, we must remain vigilant and we must be clear on demand for a register known by all and reviewed by all.
