Harare, ZIMBABWE: Zimbabwean President Uncle Robert Mugabe has extended an olive branch to Kenyan athletes two times 800m Olympic Champion David Rudisha and world javelin champion and Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego by asking them to ditch Kenyan citizenship for that of Zimbambwe.
The president offered to give them Ks500million each in case they are interested.
President Mugabe’s remarks came just a day after he ordered the entire team that participated in the recently concluded Olympics in Rio to be arrested and sent to prison for failing to win even copper.
Speaking today morning at State House, the President confirmed he has sent emmissaries to Kenya, to try and convince the athletes to accept the offer and make Zimbabwe great through sports.
“I want to confirm that there is a team out to reach those two Kenyan athletes to come and run for us. I hope those boys will agree and take our generous offer or even name their price. Money is not the problem. I agree that despite the fact that Kenya is the most corrupt country in the world, it has very good runners. In fact, a research recently indicated that their Deputy President William Ruto is the most corrupt man on earth. Nevertheless, we don’t care having their athletes here just like Bahrain, United States and Qatar. If those boys and many more others agree, it’ll be our pleasure to have them here where the safety of their money is guaranteed. For the rest our athletes who wasted the countries resources in Rio, they must go to jail. They can run but they cannot hide” Said Uncle Bob.
Zimbabwe’s offer comes barely three years since Julius Yego turned down a Ksh1b offer from Qatar. It is yet to be established when the agents arrive in Kenya and whether the government will allow them to hold talks with the athletes or not, and whether the athletes will be enticed to accept the offer.
