ODM should dare NOT impose Rosemary Akeyo Odinga on the people of Kibra
At the risk of making some of you anxious, and as a stakeholder in Kibra, I declare my unequivocal support for free and fair ODM nominations in this constituency for the 2017 General elections. The people’s special interests must prevail.
As I type these lines, there is apparent disquiet in Kibra following speculation and perception that there could be a plot to impose Rosemary Odinga on the people of Kibra as the ODM parliamentary candidate for 2017 which is a development that runs counter to the will of the people.
In carefully choreographed political plot this past weekend, she was sneaked into Kibra and dragged to the podium to make an announcement to that effect but the move was nipped in the bud by an unreceptive crowd that kept interrupting her speech (watch video)
While she may be in ODM to stay, ask anyone in Kibra and they will tell you that other than Rosemary being the daughter of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, she has no track record nor political credentials to enable her to run and be an elected and effective MP of Kibra.
In retrospect, we are all aware that in both 2007 and 2013 elections, sham ODM nominations not only led to the loss of key parliamentary seats but also severely dealt a blow to the Raila Odinga presidential ambitions due to voter apathy in our strongholds resulting from mismanagement of nomination process. It’s a conundrum that we must face and confront without batting an eyelid.
One wonders wonders why ODM would want to repeat the same mistakes it committed a decade ago and yet still expect different results.
If the party has not learnt lessons from the past, then ODM should go ahead and develop a strategy of being an opposition political party for eternity.
