My friend Charles Mark Dienya has just recalled me back from the political leave I had taken to give myself some ample time to reflect on a number of issues, both personal and of public interest.
It has to do with the sudden unexplained black out from the hitherto militant and charismatic Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s month-long refulgent political lamps.
This is a projection I had made much earlier, and just like the many other political predictions I do make, this one too seems set to come to a pass. The self-appointed owners of Raila Odinga and ODM party were never going to take their apparent political demotion lying down.
When Governor Joho recently burst into the limelight of Opposition politics, and almost took over the ownership of the Opposition party ODM,I warned him to be conscious of the vicious gang of Luo political home guards who, like the stupid flies who will never let go of the putrid smell of a rotting corpse even if it means being killed and buried alongside the smell- as if their lives entirely depended on the fetid smell, live off Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s torturous, endless political journey and keep replenishing their ever waning political fortunes from Raila’s political troubles, and will never allow for Raila’s decades long political journey to come to an end.Their own political careers depend fully on Raila not going anywhere politically beyond the mammoth political rallies he holds in his strongholds. They have to keep him down and around for when he’s gone, they too will be gone!
Raila’s former aide Mr.Elliud Owallo, fired the first warning shots immediately Joho made it clear that he had political wings strong enough to fly beyond his Mombasa backyard and into Nairobi and beyond. My friend Charles Dienya now alleges that a plan has been hatched, and is quietly being executed by these political infidels, to politically mute and incapacitate the charismatic Mombasa Governor.I won’t mention any name, nor even attempt to justify these claims for I have no verifiable facts to back up the same for now. But even it has not happened, I know for sure it will happen, sooner rather than later.
You see, when after the painful 2013 electoral loss,Ali Hassan Joho and Ababu Namwamba mobilized the youthful progressive forces with ODM and attempted a rebirth for the party in preparation for the next contest due in 2017,these same home guards organized the infamous Men In Black to abort the rebirth and maintain status quo,for a rebirth and reorganization of the party spelt an almost immediate doom to their lackluster political careers. This is exactly where the second rains started beating us in ODM.
The first rain which had formed around the mishandling of the ICC cases,Mau Forest evictions and internal disagreements by the party, had pounded William Ruto and his Kalenjin followers out of ODM and sheltered them into the enemy camp. This second rain pounded and continues to pound hope out of the party supporters, and left those who couldn’t stomach any further frustrations-like former party SG Ababu Namwamba, scampering for safety into the political wilderness.
The ominous fact, which many of us have always tried to run away from,is the exact position of the party leader in all these. As someone who possesses unfettered powers over nearly everyone in the party, what stops him from putting his feet down, and saying enough is enough? That this is the direction we should go?That he comes out as fairly uninterested in all the bad things that happen within the party,is what grants some of us the impertinence to state that he’s perhaps not interested in becoming the president, but being an immortal Opposition leader.
