SOUTH AND CENTRAL NYANZA
By Jim Bonnie
This is how I see it. There is Luo South Nyanza and Central Nyanza. As the name suggest, central Nyanza Luos are like Kikuyus only that they are not thieves. But they drink a lot as opposed to their South Nyanza counterparts.
If you have watched those Luos on TV who don’t understand or speak Kiswahili like they are straight from hell, yes, those are Central Nyanza Luos. South Nyanza Luos are very fluent in kiswahili and their English is admirable, both spoken and written. They are not as dark skinned as folks from central Nyanza.
Central Nyanza folks, which has Siaya and Kisumu counties, have the highest number of learned folks but, one learned folk from South Nyanza is ten times better than ten learned folks from Central Nyanza grouped together. Central Nyanza Luos get angry very fast. You know those folks who can beat you like mburukenge for abusing Raila?
Yes those are Luos from central. Central Nyanza ladies are beautiful compared to South Nyanza ones but the problem is that they are like Nyeri ladies, they are not marriage material. They can even beat their husbands.
Apart from Kisumu which is home to everyone, all Central Nyanza towns look like Gede ruines. South Nyanza towns (comprising of Migori and Homabay) are flourishing at a very fast pace.
And to cut it short before am beaten like stupid, central Nyanza folks do not go home. They are in Nairobi every other season and when they go home, they arrive at night and leave at night. South Nyanza folks love home and they go home during the day and leave when everyone is seeing them.
I am from SOUTH NYANZA. Na siringi!
