One secret of giving your supporters hope and energy to vote for you is by declaring you have won even before elections are held. You demean your opponent however strong he/she is, you put a brave face even if you know you will lose and continually inject confidence in your supporters to keep them in a motivated mood.
That is something Ruto has perfected nicely. He did it in 2007, 2013 and predictably he is applying the same in 2017. It therefore baffles me to see cord supporters bashing Ruto near death. But i understand this feeling.
We are hopeless and i can tell you for sure that the uncertainty of Raila’ presidency in 2017 has made us in cord very bitter. If i may ask, is there any time cord top honchos have assured their supporters that they will win 2017 elections? There has been numerous complains that 2013 cord campaign was bogus, have they even cleared the air on the same by assuring their supporters that come 2017, all will be well?
Haven’t we been treated to series of heartwreching political statements whereby, they will steal votes, we cant go to the polls with IEBC – decorate the scenes?
Another person who also applied the same excellently is Kalonzo Musyoka in his 2007 presidential bid. You remember the “tutapita katikati yao” propaganda? That was wowing. It made Kalonzo get a lot of votes because his supporters were convinced that he will surely pitia katikati ya Raila and Kibaki.
I must state without mincing wirds that cord has succeeded honourably in diminishing the hope of its supporters. Not a single week passes without the cord caliphs of politics asserting that jubilee will seal votes. By giving such alarming statements, cord leadership is demoting the hope of their supporters. By Ruto saying that they will will wil the next elections, even if its a lie, Ruto is doing what any politician worth his/her salt should do – keeping your supporters on the winning mood even in the face of adversities.
Take it or leave it, what Ruto is saying should have been coming from our opposition leaders. But anyway, our leaders look hopeless themselves, how do i expect them to elevate our hope? Wewe ebdekea kutukana Ruto eti amesema watashinda cord 2017. Natumai utamtusi tema wakitushinda.
