Chronemics is the study of the use of time in nonverbal communication . The way in which one perceives and values time , structures time, and reacts to time frames communication. Across cultures , time perception plays a large role in the nonverbal communication process. Time perceptions include punctuality, willingness to wait, and social interactions.
I want to agree with Hon Jim Bonnie that it was improper for Hon. Raila Odinga to arrive at the Labour day celebrations long after the president had arrived . By doing this the non verbal communication of the opposition leader was intended to communicate some political message that he is still relevant and commands support among the people. This in itself is not a bad thing for a politician ,but decorum dictates that such power shows are handled with civility and respect for authority.
I gave an example on this matter early this year that a cabinet minister arriving late in a function after the president in Moi era risked dismissal.
Cord supporters may not agree with this now, but am very sure they’d have not responded with kindness if the case were to be reversed with opposition Leader Uhuru doing that to President Raila Odinga.
Values must never depend on which side of the political spectrum will falling .Values must remain values.
