Mwingi North Constituency MP John Munuve was Friday beaten up by Wiper Democratic Movement supporters over claims that he was a Jubilee mole.
The MP, whose Wiper party is an affiliate of CORD, was roughed up alongside his supporters and chased away from a fundraiser at Ngomeni market in Mwingi North Constituency.
Attempts by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to calm the situation did not bear fruit as the rowdy youth pelted stones at the MP while surging to his direction.
Munuve’s bodyguard was forced to shoot in the air to disperse the youth who were determined to attack the MP. The momentary scare gave the legislator enough time to scamper for safety finding a haven in his car before driving off hurriedly.
The drama began when Munuve rose to speak with a group of youth shouting him down and making frantic efforts to attack him.
The MP has attributed his predicament to hired goon from as far as Kitui whom, he says, were under strict directives to disrupt the meeting and humiliate him in front his constituents.
The event was attended by 10 Wiper MPs, two senators among them Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama and the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Addressing the gathering after the drama, Kalonzo warned that Wiper is in the process of cracking the whip on ‘rebels’ saying Jubilee sympathisers should step down from their seats and seek fresh mandate under Jubilee party.
Tana River county Women Representative, who was present at the meeting, expressed her displeasure with the chaotic scenes saying it is unfortunate that such attacks can happen in the Wiper party leader’s backyard.
She however expressed her support for the party saying Tana River County is in Wiper to stay.
The intrigues of Ukambani politics were not left out with Peter Mathuki, a member of the East Africa Legislative Council, warning Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua over his close association with Jubilee saying his political future is at stake.
