OF MOLASSES PLANT AND WEBUYE PAN PAPER.
When I see some ODM sycophants exhibiting political righteousness over Webuye Pan Paper I cringe in pain at the hypocrisy with which we transact national politics.
You see , what Uhuru ,or is it Kibaki?, did with the hitherto lifeline of Webuye town is far less evil economically with what Moi did with Mollases .
Webuye Pan paper was neglected and mismanaged by government until it grounded to a halt.
Mollases plant was neglected and mismanaged by government until it grounded to a halt.
After few years of decay Pan paper got sold to Rai group at Sh900 million.
After many years of decay Mollases plant got sold to Spector Int. at
Ksh 120 million, and the land at Ksh 3.6 million, with the community duped into buying shares worth some millions.
In all these sold outs , justification has been that the two companies were better of creating employment and generating wealth than lying idle with massive assets including machinery and land.
On Webuye Pan paper the jury is still out , but on Mollases plant this is the state:
The company is underperforming and is reeling from mismanagement.
Against all expectations , the company has failed to make any impact around Kisumu. It has generated so little wealth and employed so few. In fact, it has made some workers poorer. The company’s SACCO is holding millions of shillings belonging to the workers , majority of whom had left because of late and under payment of salaries.
Now, imagine if the company was well funded and well managed ( Raila Odinga has billions he can inject for capitalization , remember the One billion Riat house that’s doing nothing ). Sugar cane farmers would reap big. Other farmers would have been encouraged to grow millet and other farm based raw materials . The company would be by now having many subsidiaries employing thousands of people. Mollases plant would obviously turn around the economy of Kisumu and beyond.
Private enterprise and Social Entrepreneurship have changed lives more than politics and government have.
By the way, why haven’t our billionaire leaders failed to invest in the fish industry?
Or any other industry for that matter ?
Over the years the Asian community has been making trillions of shillings in Kisumu, as we locals sit together in groups plotting how to take over government.
The people must remain poor , and set against the national government , and ,made to depend on Jakom and his agents to take them to Canaan . In the meantime , he and his agents are making billions from politics and other dealings.
I cry for the emancipation of my people.
