When Agwambo commissioned this paper, he had good intentions. He wanted to create jobs for the young people who valued objectivity and promote responsible journalism by launching a platform where Kenyans tired of garbage peddled by leading dailies like The Star, Daily Nation and the standard could get credible news.
Mistake happened when he entrusted this noble course to novices, street bloggers and jilted journalists who have used this paper to perpetuate their interests rather than publish credible stories. If you’re asked, what is this paper known for? Is it propaganda, scholarly analysis, investigative stories or news?
Here you have a paper that publishes on every Friday, what Nation, Standard and Start have been publishing daily for the whole week. Fifty per cent of its headlines are about DP Ruto (you can verify this), forty percent about Raila and when it likes, it spends acres of space delving on nonentities like Matsanga and retailing it as a story worth reader’s time and money.
The cynical jokers idling at the editorial room of this paper are not certain whether to manage it as a newspaper, a blog or a gutter.
Again, come to marketing of the paper. Nothing has been done to market it past the low key launch held at night last year. How would a newspaper excel without proper and constant marketing? How will it make profit or how will corporate lace ads on it if people, even Raila diehards, don’t buy it? And talking about buying it, how will someone in his right senses buy a paper that only glorifies Raila in every release, writes Ruto’s obituary in ever headline and repeats what appeared in other dailies over the week?
If this project is making losses, it’s solely because of the unique incompetence of content creators and amateurish propaganda clothed as news published every Friday. Jakom always has very noble ideas but the sycophants who’re full of themselves who land the responsibility of handling the same always fail him.
