Keriako Tobiko, the Director for Public Prosecutions in Kenya has pushed for a probe after an attempting defrauding of the National Youth Service (NYS) of more than KSh 700 million.
The DPP has ordered the investigation of the attempt to siphon funds from the NYS. Tobiko wrote a letter to Ndegwa Muhoro, the Director of Criminal Investigations to request for the probe on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, reports The Standard.
In his letter Tobiko said, “I write to request that at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, the resultant inquiry file be forwarded to this office for perusal and appropriate action. Please expedite.”
The requested probe comes after the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) was reportedly hacked to gain access to the NYS funds. Investigations have indicated that the hackers used passwords of high level officials to gain access to the IMFIS system.
Anne Waiguru, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Devolution made the attempted theft public in a speech on Thursday, June 18, 2015 reports the Daily Nation.
