Three teenagers have invented a condom that changes colour when it comes into contact with Sexually Transmitted Infections.
S.T.EYE; created by Daanyaal Ali (14), Muaz Nawaz (13) and Chirag Shah (14), won in the TeenTech Awards in London for it’s potential to cut the spread of STIs.
“We wanted to make something that make detecting harmful Sexually Transmitted Infections safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors,” Ali quoted by Daily Mail.
The condom concept has a layer with molecules that attach to the bacteria and viruses associated with the most common infections.
The molecules may glow green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for the human papillomavirus and blue for syphilis, the students explained.
