Blogger Robert Alai has reiterated that the deaths of the two Uuniversity tutees had nothing to do with the alleged theft but university politics and called on the student leader Babu Owino to name the killers under his command.
According to the university vice chancellor Professor Peter Mbithi, the two University of Nairobi students who were beaten to death on Saturday, June 20, 2015 allegedly stole from their colleague.
Professor Mbithi added that the deceased were among five men who robbed a student of his laptop at around 3am that morning.
“Other students responded by coming out of their rooms and pursued the suspects towards State House Road. The students caught up with the group along State House Road next to YMCA and started beating them up,” reads Mbithi’s statement.
Three of the suspects escaped while two were beaten for about an hour before the university’s security officers managed to rescue them.
Julius Omondi Omollo and Fetya Mohammed Yusuf, both non-resident students, succumbed to their injuries; one at the University Health Services and the other at MP Shah Hospital.
