At last, one of Kenya’s smartest con men has been nabbed in Mombasa after a long wait.
Albanus Kioko was selling counterfeit business permits to unsuspecting individuals when the county government came across one document during their periodic checks.
Assistant Director Information and Public Communication Mombasa County Abdulkarim Mudathir told Politica that it is then that the investigation department of the county government set up a trap to nab the man.
“We have been working closely with the community to fight crime in the county, such as when we recently made 80 arrests linked to drug dealing,” said Mr Mudathir
In a statement, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said:
“After thorough investigations, officers from the Inspectorate Department apprehended a suspect who was impersonating county officials and selling counterfeit Single Business permits to unsuspecting business owners.”
The Governor went ahead to caution business owners in the region that all payments related to Single Business permits are made at the County Banking Hall located at the County Assembly Building.
The Mombasa County Government appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity.
Kioko is being held at the Mombasa Central Police Station awaiting charge.
