President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday offered to airlift Gor Mahia to Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) to be hel in Tanzania after it emerged that the team was broke. Embattled Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria donated Ksh200k for the team.
Gor Mahia were on the verge of missing this year’s showpiece owing to financial constraints. But during an impromptu fundraiser dubbed ‘Road to Dar’ and held in Nairobi, Kenyatta through the Sports Ministry dished out 30 tickets for the traveling contingent of 30 players and officials.
The president offered the team return tickets to Tanzania, some cash for food and shelter even as CORD leader Raila Odinga, the self proclaimed no 1 fan of Kogalo, is busily preaching his Okoa Kenya Charade.
K’Ogalo will now depart for Dar es Saalam on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s Group ‘A’ kick-off fixture against Yanga of Tanzania. Others, who donated during the fundraiser are Eng. Job Ndege Sh100, 000 (his friends Sh123, 000), Sam Wakianga Sh200, 000, Kariobangi Sharks chairman Nick Mwendwa Sh200, 000, Gor Semelango (Sh100, 000), Cyprian Awiti (Sh100, 000), Jakoyo Midiwo (Sh20, 000), Ambrose Rachier (Sh100, 000), Steve Omondi (Sh20, 000) Tom Alila (Sh20, 000), Eng, Nyamunga (Sh25, 000).
Others include Peter Kenneth (Sh100, 000), Apiko Owiro (Sh25, 000), Gor Mahia excecutive office (Sh110, 000), President Sam Nyamweya (Sh50, 000), Nicholas Musonye (Sh50, 000), Dr. Oyore (Sh20, 000).
