Until Wednesday, June 24 2015, Jack Otieno had been kept in a wooden box by a kidnapper who was demanding that his parents folk out KSh 8 million in ransom.
The interior of the box resembled that of a coffin. The abductor had planned to kill Otieno on the same day he was cornerd by police.
The kidnapper is said to have abducted the Moi University Kitale campus student a fortnight ago after apparently falling out with his mother who works at the County government of Trans Nzoia.
It is understood that Otieno’s mother works at in the procurement department at the County and had failed to influence a tender award for the abductor.
“He (the abductor) pretended to be a police officer who had just been tranfered from Nairobi and that is how he managed to convince him,” Said lilian Okembo, Trans Nzoia County Police Commandant.
The victim is a first year Diploma student of Business Management and said that his abductor pretended to be a prospective student who wanted his advise on course selection.
When he won Otieno’s trust, the abductor took him to a local bar and gave him drinks which were apparently dragged.
Police rescued the 21-year-old at Lessos area of Kitale and said his abductor is a suspect who has another pending case in which he defrauded Kenya Seed Company KSh 300, 000 when he was an employee.
