Residents of Mandera County have told the former Prime Minister that they are worried. According to them, someone must have secretly exhumed the shallowly buried cadavers and transfered them elsewhere.
“These bodies were here and we saw them before calling the police. The police cam and ordered everyone to leave the crime scene immediately as they took over. We waited for them to get the bodies out of the shallow graves but they declined claiming it is unlawful to do that without a court order. When tomorrow came, the plce was heavily guarded by the police and they later on around 11 said they had obtained a court order. They purported to exhume and claimed there were no bodies. Now, we don’t know what to think” Said a young man (name withheld for security purposes) who seemed in his late 20s.
Mr. Odinga visited the family of the late Isnina Mohamed- a WIDOW that executed and buried in a shallow grave in Mandera County. The PM is yet to give a statement when he goes back to Nairobi.
So far, the government has denied claims that extra-judicial killings were carried out by the Kenya Defence Forces, saying, no body has been recovered except the one for the woman.
The comes amid claims by the Human Rights Watchdogs saying extrajudicial killings were carried out by the state machinery.
