Deputy President William Ruto has promised victims of the Gikomba fire that the government will compensate them. The market was gutted down by fire although the cause still remains unknown. The DP promised that the government will renovate the entire marrket and restore normalcy.
Ruto visited the place few hours later on. He assured the affected families that the government will work with Nairobi county to get a permanent solution.
“The National and County government will come together and explore ways of putting up permanent structures here as solution to frequent fires. I know that hustlers have been subjected to untold suffering because of this problem. I want to assure you that this Government stands with you at this hour of need,” Ruto was quoted by the Standard.
Ruto was accompanied by Dr. Evans Kidero, the Nairobi governor and other top leaders drawn from the county. The deputy president did not forget to tweet to reveal to Kenyans, here are some of their views.
