A court in Kisumu, has remanded a 24-year old ODM goon for allegedly beating and injuring a chief magistrate.
The accused Mr. Josephat Otiende alias Baba’s watchman is said to have rained blows on Mrs. Maximilar Jerotich Ocharo with his fists and leather belt all over her body when the magistrate was climbing down her vehicle.
Sources close to the accused indicate that the ongoing NYS snafu blemished Baba’s name and he was angry with government officials.
He was said to have committed the offence at about 12:30pm, Kondele Estate, on June 22,2015.
The accused person, of no fixed address pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of assault.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Nimrod Wafula, the offence is contrary to and punishable under penal code (cap. 63) of the Laws of Kenya.
The prosecutor prayed the court for adjournment of the case to enable him study the case file.
Counsel to the accused person, Mr. Josephat Nyambane, opposed the prosecution’s application, urging the court to grant his client bail as that the offence was a baliable one.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Saidi Omar Chitembwe ordered the remand of the accused person in Kodiaga prison till July, 23, 2015 for ruling.
