Online transactions in Kenya mostly rely on Mpesa while globally, PayPal does it all.  Mpesa is the most convenient and fast money transfer option available. You can use it to deposit, withdraw, pay bills, and buy items online.

PayPal and Mpesa customers have an easy task depositing and withdrawing money from their accounts. Since the introduction of the PayPal mobile Service provided by TransferTo in partnership with Safaricom, money transactions have been simplified.

To enjoy Mpesa and PayPal transactions, you need to link your account. To link your Mpesa and PayPal account:

  • Go to
  • Log into your Kenyan PayPal account
  • Agree to TransferTo terms and conditions for service usage
  • Add your registered Safaricom Mpesa number you wish to link with the account
  •  Enter the verification code sent via SMS to complete the link

How to toping up your account

You can deposit cash into your account:

  • Go to your Mpesa menu
  • Select Lipa Na Mpesa
  • Select paybill, enter the business number 800088  
  • Enter your phone number as the Account Number
  • Enter the amount you need to top up
  • Enter your Mpesa PIN to complete the transaction

Most deposit s to the PayPal account are processed in real-time. However, some might take up to 4 hours.

How to withdraw money from your account

  • Go to
  • Sign up and click on Withdraw
  • Enter the amount you wish to withdraw from your account in USD
  • You will be redirected showing the amount you will receive in Kshs, the conversion rate and the estimated processing time
  • Confirm details and proceed to Withdraw Funds

Withdrawal time takes 2 hours to 3 days to be completed. Most depend on the value of the transaction.

There is a 4% conversion fee with the paybill charges that may occur.

Transaction limits are 70,000 per transaction and 140,000 shillings in a day.
