Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta and IEBC against pushing for the election to take place on October 26 because it will be nullified by the Supreme Court.
Speaking at his Capitol Hill office, Mr. Ngunyi warned Uhuru that the environment is not condusive to hold an election especially with the withdrawal of NASA leader Raila Odinga.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is forcing an election which will be nullified for failing to meet the constitutional threshold. The constitution says that for an election to be declared valid, there must be full participation of the people in all the 290 constituencies. The Supreme Court ordered IEBC to conduct a fresh election in accordance with the constitution and warned that if IEBC does not meet the constitutional standards, it’ll render the same verdict as 1st of September. As it is now, the situation does not favor him especially after Commissioner Dr. Roselyne Akombe’s exit. My advise to President Uhuru Kenyatta, ‘you are getting everything wrong. Ignore your deputy Willian and call off the 26th election to avoind an impending embarrassment. This will be what Waswahili call’ “Mwiba wa Kujidunga ambao hauambiwi pole”.
